In Life, Marathon on February 27, 2012 at 5:04 pmThat would be my unofficial finish time for the marathon. Slightly above my first goal of 4 hours, but well above my real goal of just plain finishing.
Marathon Training: 48 Hours
In Life, Marathon on February 17, 2012 at 10:27 amIn less than two days, my race begins. Kelly and I are headed to Newark now, and we’ll soon be flying to Texas. By tonight, I’ll be in full on marathon mode, eating all the carbs I can get my hands on and stretching every waking second.
Marathon Training: 5 Days to Go
In Life, Marathon on February 14, 2012 at 1:39 pmThe countdown begins. Kelly and I fly to Austin on Friday, and then the fun begins! My last two weeks of runs have been the tapering off period, with my long runs being 12 miles and 8 miles. I made it through both of those without any trouble and minimal knee pain afterwards. I have continued to bike and use the elliptical in place of my weekday runs, but skipping the strain on my knees is probably the smart option right now. My legs feel good, and I’m starting to actually get excited about the race.

Training Midpoint: the Half-Marathon
In Life, Marathon on December 12, 2011 at 7:48 pmExactly 10 weeks from yesterday, I will be running my first marathon. The training program that I am engaged in is a slow build up to the distance, and at about the midpoint, you run a half marathon, which I did yesterday. I thought that it was a successful run, and despite some set backs, I was satisfied with the results.
Time Lapse
In Plays, School, Writing Samples on December 9, 2011 at 1:57 pmThis is a short play I wrote for my Teaching Literacy Through Drama class in Fall of 2011. It is intended for middle school students and features subtle lessons about not taking short cuts, and the satisfaction gained from a job well done.
