a year of freedom

In Life, Work on April 2, 2007 at 5:19 pm
today is the one year anniversary of my new life. you know the phrase “today is the first day of the rest of your life”? for me, that day was April 2nd, 2006.for those of you who don’t know, i used to have a terrible job. i slaved away, unappreciated, underpaid, barely living above the poverty line, at a dead-end job that kept me around by tempting me with the promise of someday being promoted (never mind that if i HAD been promoted, i still would have been underpaid). i worked at this joke of a job for nine years, over a third of my life.i left that job last april, and this has been one of the best years of my life. don’t get me wrong, some terrible things have happened to me this year: i was single for the entirety of the year, my home was burglarized four times, and i was assaulted while walking down the street in my own neighborhood. that being said, i also turned 25, spent this year working in a standard 9 – 5 office with money in my pockets and weekends free, now live in an apartment in a wonderful neighborhood that has more room than my last two apartments combined, and i’ve made some great friends, as well as reconnecting with some old ones.

all in all, it’s been a good year. i hope you all have had some good in yours as well, and i hope that you might take a moment to share your good fortunes with me and your fellow readers.

happy april, everybody! spring’s officially here, baseball is in full swing, and pretty soon i’ll be hunting you down to see if you want to spend a sunny afternoon sitting in the park. i turn 26 next week, and am looking forward to having another great year. hopefully we all will.
