i’m currently in the middle of starting a war with my landlord over the fact that we haven’t had heat in our apartment since we moved in last december. In case you’ve never been to new york in the winter, it’s fucking cold, and we’ve had to resort to buying space heaters and using the oven to heat our apartment.we weren’t too concerned about the whole thing until we got our bill from our friendly neighborhood utility monopoly, ConEd, and we owed them $600 for gas that wasn’t heating our apartment.

needless to say, we were upset.

so i’ve spent the past three days trying to rally together my fellow residents who also don’t have heat so that we can finally get something fixed. the steps we’ve taken include calling the city housing department to make a formal complaint (which, on a side note, is really funny, because when you call 3-1-1, the non-emergency general city of new york phone number, it literally say “Thank you for calling the City of New York. If you do not have heat in your Apartment, press one now.”) and taking the money we were supposed to pay rent with, and paying ConEd instead.

we’re hoping that making them pay our gas bill and calling the cops will finally get them to at least acknowledge the fact that the boilers and thermostats are broken. i shall keep my fingers crossed on that one.

  1. I genuinely enjoy reading through on this site, it has got superb content. “One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly.” by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche.
